The Farmer’s Office – Book Release Party and Talk
September 13, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm$10
Join us as we celebrate the release of “The Farmer’s Office: Tools, Tips and Templates to Successfully Manage a Growing Farm Business”: a new book by SM-B co-leader Julia Shanks, written to help farmers maintain financial sustainability.
Slow Money Boston is pleased to host an interactive educational event for farmers (and other Slow Money entrepreneurs) as well as investors and engaged community members. The evening will include conversations with farmers who’ve learned the value of financial management and how it’s help them be successful. There will be plenty of time for networking; and of course, we’ll provide snacks and refreshments.
The event starts at 6pm, but come early at 5:30pm for a tour of Newton Community Farm.
Small and mid-size farms are at the heart of a healthy and sustainable food system and whether you’ve been farming for many years or just getting started, your dream is to grow delicious, nutritious food and to become a responsible steward of the land.
But launching, running and growing a successful farm business requires you think like an entrepreneur and thoughtfully manage your business for success. Understanding the basics of accounting and bookkeeping, and how to manage a growing business is a must. “The Farmer’s Office” is a comprehensive, accessible guide with tools to put beginning and established farmers on the path to achieve financial and operational sustainability.
